Microsoft slammed VMware for being too expensive and now they are back at it again. This time they came out with a funny but true quote from a customer saying that for 50,000 dollars they could pay someone to move their virtual machines for them vs. being required to buy it from
VMware.
"Finally, the headline to this Australian article caught my eye over the weekend: "PacLib performs VMware analysis but chooses Microsoft." The money quote, which I already alluded to, comes from IT manager David Furey when discussing VMware's proposal:"
"They came back with a proposal of about $25,000 in installation costs and another $25,000 in software costs," Furey told iTnews. "You've got to question whether it's worth paying $50,000 for that. I know the VMware camp go on about features like VMotion, but for $50,000 I could pay someone to move my virtual machines for me."
Now that is a funny quote and a direct attack on the price it takes to purchase and deploy VMware's enterprise solution. Of course there is much more to moving VMs than just the price it takes to deploy it but I will leave those arguments for the comments below. Lord knows someone will have something to say about it...
